The Meadowside Family Health Centre

Meadowside Family Health Centre is a partnership of six family doctors looking after 8,400 patients in Solihull. It’s also a training practice with doctors in specialist training as well as medical students from the Universities of Birmingham and Warwick gaining firsthand experience in primary care.

“When, as part of our ethos of improving patient care and service, we decided to look at various digital dictation systems, it soon became apparent that Crescendo was the solution offering the most, particularly in view of the integration with SystmOne.”

Ease of Use

“Clinicians are extremely pleased and found the move to Crescendo’s digital dictation very easy particularly since new referrals are automatically labelled with the patients details from SystmOne, thereby avoiding errors. The ability to create a ‘to do’ list for referrals and ‘draft’ jobs for finishing later has also proved most useful.”

Workflow and Integration

“Secretaries are delighted with the change: they can now deliver an even more efficient service while eliminating the sudden gluts of work that they used to suffer. Also, Digi automatically opens the correct patient in SystmOne when a dictation is selected for transcription, which further improves security and saves time.

Crescendo has substantially increased the efficiency of the referral process. It is easier to prioritise appropriate letters, with easy access to individual jobs – no more searching tapes. Referral letters are able to be issued more promptly for the benefit of patients; not to mention that other practice staff are now able to access work lists in real-time and see if a letter has been dictated and/or transcribed, which means patient queries can be answered immediately.

During leave/sickness absence of secretarial staff, other admin staff have been able to provide cover very quickly when needed, accessing the system from their own desks. The secretaries are no longer dependent on Doctors delivering tapes to them which used to create a backlog of work – letters are received by secretaries the moment the dictation is completed by the clinician, allowing them to manage their workload much more easily.”

Reporting, reporting, reporting

“The management and reporting module has also proved extremely useful, allowing us to review who creates the workload and where. We also have access to a referral reporting module, which proves most invaluable for providing information to the CCG.

Implementing Crescendo has been a significant benefit to the practice. After some initial teething problems during installation, the Crescendo system has been extremely reliable and trouble free.

Would I recommend Crescendo to other practices? Most definitely – and I’m already doing so.”
